New item available for purchase

A recent addition to the items the museum has available for purchase is the book “Shepherd’s Progress” by Janet Thomson, which is the story of James “Jim” Elliott and his family. Jim had an illustrious career as a highly regarded early farm manager in Maniototo, Manuherikia Valley and Barewood. He became a runholder in his own right when he purchased the lease of the “Mount Ross” grazing run in 1886.

The Elliotts, the Beatties and the Mathesons are closely related and have have contributed significantly to the development Strath Taieri over many years. Descendants are actively involved in our community today.
