East of the Rock and Pillar Archive
It is many years since I began compiling the East of the Rock and Pillar - a new view material. A few people contributed their own texts and many provided photographs. A large proportion is the result of oral history interviews with one or more participants, and the whole Macraes folder was mostly the work of Neil Roy of Moonlight. At the time all interviewees approved the text of their sections for sharing in the folders held at the Middlemarch Museum, Kissing Gate Cafe and libraries. We also shared it at meetings held at Middlemarch.
In making this material available for web publication I am aware that I do not have explicit consent from the interviewees. Now a number have died and knowing how valuable the stories are I am hoping that family and friends will accept that today it is different and web sharing is the best way of enabling these stories to be told. If you have any concerns about this please contact me directly.
This material will be released to the archive over the months and years to come after being checked for accuracy. Although, at a slower pace, I am still collecting and compiling. If you, or people you know have Strath Taieri tales to share please contact me. It is a privilege to share these reminders of our past.
